A COUPLE’S big day was dashed after hotel bosses more than doubled the cost of their wedding.
“A few months ago I went in to check that the takeover wouldn’t affect us and I was reassured everything would be fine.”
But less than seven months until the big day, the couple received a letter informing them of changes.
It read: “As you will now be aware, Seaham Hall, previously under the management of Von Essen, is now under the management of Seaham Hall Management Ltd.
“This has resulted in changes to the terms and conditions that were originally agreed upon booking your wedding.
“I regret to inform you that the previous wedding packages offered at Seaham Hall are no longer available.”
It coincided with prices being ramped up. Leanne claims the cost of their proposed wedding package had been more than doubled.
A meeting was arranged to discuss the issue, but that just left Leanne even more upset and angry.
“They said that, because the hotel was going to be of a better standard than before, my £10,000 package is no longer good enough. They said they were looking for a better clientele.”
The Echo this week spoke to two other couples also affected by changes to wedding packages previously agreed, but they said Seaham Hall has now backtracked and offered to honour their original deals.
However, when Seaham Hall offered Leanne and Chris, 32, a Vauxhall mechanic, their original deal, it was too late.
“The way we were treated, I wouldn’t get married there anyway,” said Leanne.
“They ruined what was meant to be the best day of my life and caused so much stress for the family.
The couple has now arranged to be married at Wynyard Hall, Billingham.
“I’m so glad this has happened now,” said Leanne. “I now know what I would have been missing if I’d had it at Seaham Hall.”
Seaham Hall declined to comment.
