Cooking up cash boost

A TALENTED student has won praise for his catering skills.

Aiden Jackson, from Washington, was one of a group of Gateshead College students who took part in a fundraising event at the Angeethi Indian Restaurant, in Low Fell, Gateshead, to mark one year since it opened.

Aiden, 17, said: “The evening was a big confidence booster and an extremely fulfilling experience. It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves while gaining important skills and experience.” Following match funding from Barclays Bank, the event raised almost £700 for the Gateshead College Foundation, an independent charity which provides funding that helps people develop skills to secure meaningful employment.

Roy Thompson, from the college, said: “The event not only gave us an excellent platform to raise money but also provide a fantastic way to allow students to gain hands-on practical work experience.”
