ECHO Star Pet for 2013 Chester the dog has his best pal Elliott Dickinson to thank.
Elliott, aged nine, cut out an entry form from the paper for this year’s contest and begged his mum Joanne to enter their beloved pooch.
“It was all Elliott’s idea to put Chester in for it,” said Joanne, 40.
“He cut the form out of the Echo and pestered me to enter him. “I sent it off but didn’t really think anything more of it until I got a phone call to say he’d won.”
Joanne says she was shocked to find out that the beloved cockapoo puppy, who is just 18 months old, had won the title as well as £25 towards dog treats.
“Chester deserves it because he’s a really good-natured dog, even though he’s a bit daft,” added Joanne, of Queen Alexandra Road in Sunderland.
“He’s still a puppy but he’s great with kids and other dogs as well.
“I was thinking about spending the money on new glasses for myself because he chewed mine the other morning!
“But, because he’s still growing and developing I think it will go on some new dog chews for him.”
