MEET the six best Christmas presents in the world.

Staff at Sunderland Royal Hospital’s maternity department had a busy day, with four new mums giving birth.

Ashleigh Hughes, 29, from Murton, had twins Darcie and Leah, her first babies with 30-year-old partner Ceri Chick.

Darcie weighed in first at 4lbs exactly, with Leah following at 4lbs, 12 and a half ounces.

“I am over the moon,” said Ashleigh.

Also giving birth to twin girls was 25-year-old Charlene Liddiard, from Red House.

She and partner Michael McAnaney have yet to decide on names for the pair, who weighed in at 5lb 10oz and 5lb 2oz respectively.

“We have already got four children – this makes it three of each,” said Charlene.

Trasi Hartley, 31, from Harraton, and partner Antony Stott welcomed 7lb 10oz Maddison Rose.

“I am absolutely overwhelmed,” said Trasi.

Anna Budniok, 24, also became a mum for the first time as she and partner Daniel Gordon, 25, said hello to 9lb, eight and a half ounces Lila.

“She was due on the 20th, so she is five days late,” said Anna.

“I feel absolutely fantastic.”
