STAFF at Sunderland Empire have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of the North East.

Despite hard economic times for many, theatre-goers during the festive period dug deep and helped to raise more than £8,600 to support the work of Marie Curie nurses.

“The support from staff and customers at Sunderland Empire theatre has been incredible,” said Charlotte Flowers, of Marie Curie.
