A CAR smashed into a front wall of a home just moments before youngsters were due to play out on the street.

The black Suzuki Swift collided with the wall in Boult Terrace, Shiney Row, just before 4pm today, with another car also involved in the crash.

Two women, the driver and her friend, who had been sitting in the back with a dog, were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Police said their injuries were not serious and both were able to get out of the car once they had been checked by the ambulance staff.

Witnesses to the collision said a white car had been involved in the accident with the Swift as it prepared to pull onto the grass verge outside a house.

A 19-year-old Penshaw man has been arrested on suspicion of causing dangerous driving and was due to speak to investigating officers last night.

The 31-year-old woman who lives in the house where the wall was damaged said she and her 29-year-old partner, their nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son had been inside when they heard the crash happen.

She said the family had been badly shaken by the ordeal.

She said: “I went to the window and my partner said to them do you want to go out and play on your scooters.

“A minute later, we heard this big bang.

“I’m glad everyone is all right.”

The dog was not injured in the crash and was being cared for by relatives of the passenger, who had been looking after it on behalf of a family friend while they are away.

Boult Terrace is set back from the A183 Chester Road and is a busy stretch of road leading up to Shiney Row’s main interchange.
