ONE Wearsider had a lucky Christmas after scooping a brand new car – thanks to Grace House Hospice.

Sunderland car dealership Town Centre Citroen kindly donated a brand new C1 vehicle as a raffle prize.

The winning ticket was drawn from a cement mixer by actor Steve Arnott, who is playing Abanazar in Aladdin at the Theatre Royal Pantomime, in Newcastle.

All proceeds from the raffle will go towards helping the vital work the hospice is set to carry out in caring for youngsters with life-limiting illnesses.

The hospice building, in Southwick, is now complete, with patients’ rooms being kitted out with equipment.

The final stages of preparing the hospice follow a decade of fund-raising by generous Wearsiders who have helped to make the project a reality after an appeal was set up by veteran broadcaster Kathy Secker.

The first visitors are expected to be welcomed in the early part of 2013.

Grace House fund-raiser Karen Maclennan, said: “We would like to thank everyone who has bought a ticket and Town Centre Citroen for their very kind generous donation of a Citroen C1 for us to raffle.”

She added: “To all our donors and supporters, may we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”

The winning ticket is number 106291 and the winner has been contacted to arrange collection of the car.

THE Echo’s Hospice of Hope Appeal aims to raise £20,000 for a play park at the hospice.

Youngsters at the hospice will be able to use the specialist outdoor area alongside their families, giving them the chance to enjoy playtime together.

You can text a donation by texting PARK12 followed by the amount they wish to donate (e.g. PARK12 £5) to 70070.

Any amount between £1 and £10 can be sent to the charity.

Cheque or postal orders in aid of the appeal can also be sent in, which should be made payable to Northeast Press Ltd – Sunderland Echo Charity Account.

Written on the reverse should be “Grace House Hospice of Hope Appeal”.

They should then be sent to David Allison, Hospice of Hope Appeal, Sunderland Echo, Echo House, Pennywell Industrial Estate, Sunderland, SR4 9ER.

We also want to hear about your fund-raising efforts for the campaign.

Call David on 501 7137 or email david.allison@northeast-press.co.uk.
