THIS little piggy is destined to head all the way to a new home.
The Vietnamese pot-bellied pig was cornered by police, street wardens and residents on Wednesday night after he and another escaped from allotments in Seaham.
Now the pet, nicknamed Porky by the officers who found him digging into bin scraps in the rear lane of Fox Street, is heading off for a new life down on the farm.
He will join other pigs at Kays Hill Animal Sanctuary in West Auckland, while the other animal remains a fugitive in Seaham.
The Dawdon Duo – as they have been dubbed by police – sparked the drama when they were spotted roaming the streets, with Porky spotted by officers after he ran out in front of their van.
Drivers also reported the other pig had also narrowly escaped injury after trotting into the path of cars on Strangford Road, before it was first rounded up on Thursday.
However, he later escaped again after breaking loose from a yard not far from the allotment site in Hill Crescent, which is where police believe they may have been living.
They have asked anyone with information to get in touch.
Efforts to confirm their original owner have failed to lead the authorities to their old home.
Police Community Support Officer Carole Hutton was among the team who helped round up Porky.
She said: “This has been quite a funny story, but we also want to get out the message that when people buy these pigs, they should think about how big they are going to get and make sure they can look after them.”
