Can you solve the mystery of the Sunderland cup?

HELP is needed to find out more about a mug which marks a major piece of Sunderland history.
The inscription commemorates the first stone of the original Wearmouth Bridge being laid in 1793, by Rowland Burdon MP.
The mug belongs to Edward Rain, and the 64-year-old is keen to discover more about what has become a family heirloom.
“My grandmother left it to me when she died, when I was 18,” he said.
“Her and my grandfather got rid of everything else, as they didn’t want to leave anything behind, but she said she wanted to leave me the cup as it had been passed down through the family.
“I just keep it at the back of the cupboard in a cardboard box, I’ve always just left it there.
“It used to be filled with bits of paper and a photo, but they have disintegrated.”
The cup does not have a manufacturer’s stamp or any other information.
“I would love to know more about who made it and where, and when,” said Edward.
“Even if it was worth something it wouldn’t make any difference to me, it would stay in the family as that is how it has been all along.
“I don’t really know where to start looking, so I thought I would just see if anyone could help, if they knew anything.
“If they do, I would like to speak to them.”
