A BUDDING actress is hitting the London stage with a summer school.
Washington student Lucy Helen Carruthers, from Usworth, was selected from hundreds of young hopefuls to attend an introductory course in London with the National Youth Film Academy.
Lucy Helen, 17, an A-level student at Lord Lawson of Beamish School, studying drama, English literature, history and geography, was thrilled to get a place on the 10-day residential course.
The youngster, who is also a vocal student with Maggie Ballantyne in Washington Arts Centrel and a dance student with Prima Academy in Oxclose, will be given the chance to train with industry professionals and act in a short film, which will be shown at the Hackney Picturehouse in front of industry representatives.
Lucy Helen auditioned for the course in March and received word in April that she had been selected for a place, because of her “passion and talent”.
She said: “Since the age of three when I started ballet classes, I have loved to perform and learn about dance, musical theatre and drama, and hope very much to follow this path with further learning at university.”
