A KAYAKER was pulled from the sea after getting into difficulties as he paddled close to a harbour.

HM Coastguard received a series of calls just after 4pm today reporting they were concerned about the man.

He had been spotted in the water near to Seaham’s North Pier after capsizing from his craft.

Sunderland RNLI’s Atlantic 85 boat was diverted from Sunderland Air Show patrol to assist the man.

A spokesman for the team said: “Thankfully a passing vessel pulled him from the water and then passed him into the care of Sunderland Lifeboat crew.

“He was then landed ashore at Seaham.

“The man was safe and well other than being wet.”

The Coastguard added its staff had also gone to the assistance of the man, who did not been any medical attention.
