SUNDERLAND fans can mark the 40th anniversary of the momentous 1973 FA Cup triumph by getting their hands on memorabilia from the big day.

An auction of football memorabilia next month includes many lots of interest to Wearsiders.

Up for grabs will be a menu from the dinner held on night of the final at the Park Lane Hotel, Piccadilly, signed by 15 members of the victorious squad, as well as a limited edition first-day cover signed by the whole team and manager Bob Stokoe.

Other items include various regional and national newspapers covering SAFC’s win, souvenir photo albums and signed pictures and autograph sheets from the 1932 and 1933 seasons.

They belong to collector and Charlton Athletic supporter Roger Ambrose, from London.

The 52-year-old accountant said he has organised the auction to free up some much needed space at his new home, but will be particularly sad to see some of the Sunderland pieces leave.

He told the Echo: “I have been a collector for twenty-odd years now. We are moving house and my loft is practically overflowing.

“With Sunderland, I have some nice pieces relating to their 1973 FA Cup win.”

He added: “Curiously, Sunderland are my second team. I was 12 when they won in 1973 and I remember watching it.

“I was mesmerised and I’ve stayed with them ever since.

“These are pieces that will be of interest to everyone and we’ve all got to start somewhere if you want to be a collector.”

Fans can view the catalogue of lots available online by visiting www.staceyauction.com ahead of the sale at Stacey’s Auction House, in Rayleigh, Essex, at 11am on Monday, February 11.

For those who are unable to make the journey south but still want to secure their very own piece of SAFC history, an online bidding service will be live on the morning of the auction at www.saleroom.com.
