Barclays boosts charity

OLDER Wearsiders are set to benefit thanks to a donation from bank staff.

A Barclays employee from the firm’s Sunderland North branch raised £988 to support Age Concern after organising a tombola and raffle at the Roker Hotel.

The donation was boosted to £1,976 by Barclays, which supports its workers by offering match funding.

Denise Spoors, a customer advisor from Barclays Sunderland North said: “We’re delighted with the amount raised and would like to thank our customers and everyone who supported us to make this happen.

“It’s about giving back our skills, time,and energy to support our local communities – so we’re thrilled to have raised £1,976 to help Age Concern.

Alan Patchett, director of Age Concern in Sunderland, said: “Thanks to Denise Spoors and Barclays, the funding will really help us. We are very grateful for their fantastic efforts and support. The money raised really will make a big difference.
