Angry customer smashed in shop door after assuming it had shut early

A DISGRUNTLED yob smashed a glass panel at a shop which he thought had closed early.

Kenneth Potts kicked out at the door panel of the One Stop Shop in Pennywell, Sunderland, in a fit of rage.

Sunderland magistrates were told Potts, 32, had asked a worker to open the store, and when he refused, Potts back-heeled the door, smashing it.

He pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage.

Sarah Guest, prosecuting, said Potts, of Partick Road, Sunderland, later told police he had drank 12 cans, as well as spirits, and could not remember being at the shop or getting home.

She added that the 2ft by 2ft panel was valued at £300.

Magistrates fined Potts £70, with £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
