BANDS from around the world descended on Durham for its annual celebration of brass music.

Brass: Durham International Festival saw bands fly in from India, Turkey, Germany, France and the United States.

There were more than 100 events across the city over 11 days, including performances by indie band British Sea Power and Lanterns By The Lake, and Steamsong – billed as a ‘multimedia opera’, which commemorated the record-breaking run of steam locomotive Mallard in 1938.

The festival also included Streets of Brass, which saw the streets of Durham City filled with musicians.

The festival is estimated to have attracted an audience of about 85,000 people.
