A fighting chance for fund-raiser sports night

A SHOWCASE of sporting talent will feature in a fund-raiser tonight.

Spartan Fighting Arts Academy, in Canterbury Road, Hylton Castle, is backing The Silent Trumpet appeal launched by physiotherapist and mixed martial arts enthusiast Michael Butler.

It aims to raise £7,000 for specialist equipment for The Hawthorns in Peterlee, which will be used to help residents to communicate who have conditions such as locked-in syndrome and cerebral palsy.

Tonight, Union bar in Holmeside will host the charity night, where DJs will perform and Brian Houshby is the compere.

Spartan’s younger members will hold a pads demonstration, Fifi Galore will show off her fire-eating abilities, there will be junior kickboxing bouts between Spartan and South Shields’ gym Kuei Ling members, and there will also be a football skills demonstration.

Doors open at 7pm and the entertainment begins at 7.30pm. Entry is £10.
