70 years of married bliss for Sunderland couple

A LOVING couple today celebrate 70 years of wedded bliss.

George and Norma Douglas were married on Boxing Day, in 1942.

Mr and Mrs Douglas, who both grew up in Sunderland, were married at Bishopwearmouth Church.

The pair, who are regular churchgoers, have enjoyed a happy retirement since Mr Douglas, 95, left work as an electrician at Coles Cranes, in Pallion. Mrs Douglas, 91, was born in Pallion.

The couple, of Lakeside Village, celebrated Christmas Day with members of their family, including daughter Susain Kinnair, 61.

Mrs Kinnair said of her parents’ anniversary: “It certainly is an amazing achievement.

“I’m very proud of them. They have both had great health.

“They’ve always been very loving parents and I’m just pleased to see they are still happy together.”

As well as another child Keith, now 65, who lives in Northampton, Mr and Mrs Douglas also have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
