A LIGHT festival has helped pump millions of pounds into Durham’s economy.
The Lumiere festival 2011 is estimated to have been worth more than £4million to County Durham.
An independent financial assessment of the event by Miller Research Evaluation Consulting has revealed a return of 980 per cent on Durham Council’s initial investment of £400,000.
Councillor Neil Foster, cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: “The economic impact speaks for itself – £4.3million is a fantastic return on investment and a hugely significant boost for the county’s economy.
“About 150,000 people came to Durham City over those four magical evenings last November.”
