THE 25th Sunderland International Airshow was officially launched today – in the unlikely surroundings of Newcastle Airport.

The airshow takes place on July 26, 27 and 28, and guest-of-honour at today’s event was a Tucano T1 – a modified version of the Brazilian Embraer EMB-312 Tucano aircraft.

The Tucano is used at RAF Linton-on-Ouse and providing basic fastjet flying training to RAF and Royal Navy students.

Flying instructor Flight Lieutenant Andrew Fyvie-Rae will be flying as part of the RAF Tucano display team on both the Saturday and Sunday.

He said: “We’ll be doing two aerobatic sequences, each eight minutes long, which will look quite nice over the water.”

Airshow organisers have pulled together a packed programme for the full weekend
