LITTLE Poppy Tomlinson celebrates her first birthday today – four years after she was born.
Poppy arrived at the home in Belle Vue Road, Ashbrooke, Sunderland, she shares with dad Tommy, 50, mum Jane, 41, and big brother Felix, nine, exactly four years ago today – on February 29, 2008.
Today she is celebrating her birthday on the actual day for the first time.
Tommy admitted Poppy’s first three birthdays has been “a moveable feast”.
“I think we have been a bit fluid with it, to be fair,” he said.
“If March 1 was a Friday or Saturday, we would celebrate then, but if March 1 was a Monday, we would probably celebrate on the Sunday.”
Tommy, Jane and Felix are as excited about today as Poppy is.
“It’s great,” he said. “We are loving it. It’s kind of like her first birthday all over again.”
Poppy, a pupil at Hill View Nursery School, intends to make a big day of it.
“It’s fun,” she said. “I’m going to bring people home – lots and lots of people.”
Artist Tommy helps out at Redby Primary School.
“She has told me she wants to invite all the people from the school I work at, all the people from her school, and all the people from Felix’s school,” he said.
Popppy was up bright and early this morning for her big day.
“We’ve been opening present for hours,” said Jane. “We’ve got loads of princesses and unicorns and pink things.”
It seems Poppy’s party dream may come true: “We are going to have lots of people round for tea and cakes,” said Jane, “then she wants fish and chips.”
