A SERIAL sex attacker is facing his fifth life sentence behind bars.

During the 80s and 90s, Stephen Crawford was found not guilty of rape charges against five different women.

He claimed the women all consented and as a result the cases against him eventually collapsed.

At Newcastle Crown Court in 2007, Crawford, 49, was given four life sentences for a series of sex attacks against women that decade.

And at the same court today, jurors convicted him of raping a schoolgirl after he offered her a lift home from a disco 30 years ago when the victim was a teenager.

He denied the latest charge but jurors convicted him of rape after just 90 minutes deliberation.

Judge John Milford told Crawford he is considering imposing yet another life sentence.
