A MAN has been arrested after a suspected stolen car crashed.
A police officer on patrol spotted that a vehicle had failed to stop in Blind Lane, Houghton.
The officer followed the car - a Nissan Sunny - which then crashed into another vehicle in nearby Golfcourse Road, Shiney Row.
Eight officers from Sunderland South Community Fire Station, in Rainton Bridge, rushed to the scene to deal with the smash.
The occupant of the Nissan, a 20-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment on a leg injury.
Two men in the second car, a Suzuki Vitara, also suffered injuries to their legs and have been in hospital for treatment.
A police spokeswoman today confirmed the 20-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without consent.
The smash happened at around 8pm on Tuesday.
Those with information regarding what happened should call Northumbria Police on the non-emergency 101 number.
