A HORROR crash between a car and a lorry has claimed its fourth life today.
Margaret Reed, 74, from Houghton, had been in a critical condition since the accident on Wednesday, April 25, when the Renault Scenic Megane in which she was a front seat passenger was involved in a collision with a Volvo truck on the B1404 Seaham to Houghton road.
Mrs Reed’s husband Robert, 75, who had been driving the car, the couple’s 14-month-old great-granddaughter Destiny Reed and the baby’s mum Natalie Simpson, 18, died at the scene.
Mrs Reed was airlifted from the scene to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough . Police today said that Mrs Reed has died.
The driver of the lorry, a 42-year-old man from Hetton, remains on bail until mid-June after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
