A MOTORCYCLIST suffered serious leg injuries when his bike collided with a car.
The 22-year-old from Easington Lane came off his Yamaha XT125R in the accident, which happened as he was heading along Front Street in South Hetton just before 7pm on Thursday.
Police say he was heading in the opposite direction to a Vauxhall Vectra when the car turned right in to Rose Cottages and the vehicles crashed.
The rider was left with serious injuries to his left leg and is being treated at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where his condition has been described as comfortable.
The driver of the Vectra, a 31-year-old woman and her two passengers, were shocked but unhurt.
The road was closed between 7pm and 8.45pm.
