TIME is running out to make “Wearslide” a reality.

Wearsiders have just one day left to show their support for plans to install a giant slide in Sunderland.

In May, artist Luke Jerram set up a 95-metre slide on Bristol’s Park Street, with more than 96,000 people applying for the 360 places available.

Sunderland, Huddersfield, Kendal and Kingston-upon-Thames have all expressed interest in staging a slide.

And if the UK Slide Live Facebook page reaches 2,000 likes by tomorrow, an announcement will be made confirming which of the four venues has won.

Events firm Sunderland Live has secured the rights for Wearside.

Boss Chris Alexander said: “The response has been absolutely great. The Facebook page has hundreds of likes, and the number of followers on Twitter is going up all the time.

“We have had people of all ages saying they want to do it or they want their kids to do it.

“The number of people who have talked to me about it and the reaction from the business community has been very positive.

“We would love to make Wearslide a reality, but in order to do so, we need to be able to show the organisers there is real support for the idea. There is time to log on to Facebook and let organisers know how much they want to see this event come to Sunderland.

“We are confident we can make this an amazing event that people will remember for years to come, but we need their support to make it a reality.” Anyone who wants to support Wearslide can like the UK Slide Live and Sunderland Live Facebook pages and post that they want to bring the event to Sunderland, and follow @UKSlide and @WearSlide on Twitter and tweet about how much they want to bring the event to the city.
