A RAINBOW of kites sailed in the skies as a showcase was held by fliers from across the country.
Souter Lighthouse, in Whitburn, hosted the Kites Over Souter spectacular during the weekend, bringing in 2,000 visitors to the National Trust-run attraction.
Organised by North East Kite Fliers for the second year running, visitors were entertained as kites of all shapes and sizes were flown to music.
They were also given the chance to learn the skill for themselves as members led classes.
Peter Heayns, secretary of the 80-strong club, said: “We love it here, it’s a lovely venue and we can look out to the North Sea, and this is now the only kite festival held south of the Tyne.
“We’ve had about 50 fliers flying hundreds of kites.”
