YOUNGSTERS were left disappointed when their favourite television character failed to show up for a community event in the city.
Peppa Pig was expected to make a flying visit to Wearside on Sunday to meet and congratulate the young volunteers who took part in the first ever North River Rubbish Relay.
Volunteers walked the four mile stretch from Castletown to the National Glass Centre collecting rubbish as they went.
The popular television pig was expected to greet them at the end of their work, but sadly didn’t make it.
However, the event was still hailed a success with dozens of people taking part.
