KIDS went wild at Penshaw Hill with the help of a feathered friend.

Young animal lovers were able to get up close to barn owl Ollie, who was at the National Trust’s Wild Wednesday event.

Chris Wood, National Trust Ranger for North York Moors, Coast and Durham Properties, said the day had been a success.

“It went really well. The weather was better than expected and there was a big turnout. I think people had heard about it from the last one we had.”

As well as meeting Ollie, children toasted marshmallows, made toast on a campfire and tried their hand at kite-making. They also took part in a GPS Treasure Hunt.

Chris, 25, added: “It’s a great chance for kids to get outside and enjoy themselves outdoors.

“We had the owl there which was quite exciting and I think the kids really enjoyed being able to see it up close.”
