Have your say

It’s been a jam packed week, with loads going on in the city. It seems like Thursday, November 12, was a popular date in everyone’s diary. There were three places I wanted to be all at once.

The first was the Christmas lights switch on at Keel Square. But as it turned out this didn’t go ahead due to the weather warning, so now I only had to miss out on one cool event rather than two. Are we excited about seeing Andrea Faustini perform and switch on the lights?

The second place I wanted to be was the Wearside Community and Business Awards at The Point. I really love events like this that celebrate all that is great in our city...and there is lots to celebrate. I followed the action on Facebook and Twitter and it looked ace. The Point looks as though it’s had a great make over since it became a function venue rather than a night club. I did used to love going there in my clubbing days though!

I was over the moon to see some of my friends pick up awards. Kam from Funky Indian won Social Enterprise of the Year, Harry Collinson won City Champion and James Procopis won Social Entrepreneur for his work with his Sunderland Now Facebook page. All really well deserved.

So, where was I... I was at the first birthday party of Made in Tyne and Wear, our local TV channel. To celebrate 365 days of broadcasting they aired a special live episode and WOW, what a lot of work goes into making that happen. I started off in the audience and it was hilarious, especially host Peter Darrant. He should be a stand up comedian. His ability to drop innuendo into any conversation is second to none! Then in part four I was interviewed about my new show that starts on the channel in January. It’s called Chatty Lasses and it’s a chat show packed with debate, opinions and girly chat. Me and my co-hosts Lisa and Suzanne have had the most hilarious time filming it and talking about topics such as weddings, beauty, business and everything in-between. We go off on a tangent a lot and my cheeks hurt at the end of every episode from laughing so much. Make sure you tune in in January!

After traveling a lot this last week for work, from as far north as Glasgow to as far South as London, by Friday I was goosed. So, I had a scruffy hair, no make up and joggers day (although the joggers element is not unusual... who am I trying to kid, I always look like I’ve just finished a workout). I was feeling wrecked, but I soon perked up when I got a lovely phone call informing me that I’d been nominated for Role Model of the Year at the Best of Wearside awards this coming Thursday. Just being nominated is brilliant and a fab surprise. I don’t know who nominated me (they wouldn’t tell me), but if you’re reading this and it was you, thank you.

I certainly seems like this last week proves that we have a lot to be proud of in Sunderland, from awards and events to TV and venues. It’s the best place to be. Big high five Sunderland!

Have a great week, and as always tweet me your views @KatieBulmer1.
