DISCOUNTED food and drink is still on the menu until the end of the month as part of a bid to get more people into the city.
Restaurant Wednesdays was launched at the beginning of the month, offering mid-week diners discounts from their bills throughout June on receipt of vouchers available online.
Bars and restaurants taking part in the city-wide project have welcomed more people through their doors than usual as a result.
Marie Basilisco, from city centre restaurant Tosca, said: “The last two weeks have definitely been busier than usual with people using the vouchers and very few of them were ‘regulars’ so it’s fair to assume the rest were from new customers, so Restaurant Wednesday is a success.”
Chris Alexander, chief operating officer at entertainments company Sunderland Live, added: “We’re all delighted that this business partnership project is proving so popular.
“Sunderland has so much to offer for residents and visitors alike, and Restaurant Wednesdays has helped encourage even more people to come out and enjoy some mid-week fine dining and entertainment.”
The event was launched to coincide with the series of summer concerts at the Stadium of Light, which brought in an estimated 120,000 visitors to Sunderland, and created an approximate £10million windfall for Wearside businesses.
