DOUBLE winner Ross Muscroft was the toast of the city at the Sunderland Young Achievers’ Awards 2013.

The 14-year-old St Robert’s School pupil took home the overall award to add to his Carer of the Year honour at the Stadium of Light bash.

Selfless Ross cares for his mum Paula and his sister Nicole, who both of suffer from serious illnesses.

Despite having all of that to contend with and previous issues with bullying, he remains a grade-A student.

Judges decided Ross was deserving of the top honour, which is awarded in memory of youth worker Andy Neal.

“I’m shocked,” said Ross, of Concord, in Washington, who was given his award by Sunderland City Council leader Paul Watson and Metro FM DJs Steve Furnell and Karen Wright last night.

“I didn’t think I would win this.

“When I came here I just thought it would be a nice night out.

“But, honestly, I didn’t even expect to win Carer of the Year, never mind this as well.

“It’s amazing.”
