TALENTED teen Lauren Sherriff is saddling up for success.

The 14-year-old horse rider, from Fulwell, has claimed glory in a number of top competitions and is now gearing up for her first season of British eventing.

Last month, she competed in the Oliver Townend Eventing Challenge Championship at Aintree with horse Spencer where she was awarded second place for her category.

The Monkwearmouth School girl, who first began riding when she was five, has racked up a series of trophies including winning the Nicola Wilson Eventing Challenge which earned her a lesson with the champion rider.

Helping her on the road to British Eventing success – which features dressage, show jumping and cross country rounds – is British eventer Emma Mould, who trains Lauren at the Cox Green Equestrian Centre.

Emma said: “Lauren has the right aptitude and attitude to do well and progress in horsemanship. There are lots of prestigious events for young riders and I feel that Lauren is capable and competent and has potential to achieve good results along with Spencer’s previous experience.”

Mum Julie said: “Lauren has recently moved from her pony called Fly to Spencer who is a 15.3 hands-high horse. This has given her the opportunity to take her riding to the next level and compete in British Eventing. It is very demanding but also very expensive so we are looking for help with sponsorship.”
