FORMER Black Cats favourite Julio Arca will once again be taking to the pitch sporting red and white – but not for Sunderland AFC.
Since the beginning of this football season the Argentine has been turning out for the Willow Pond pub side in the city’s Sunday League.
The team had been wearing blue, but a new sponsor, Paul Taylor & Son Plumbing and Heating, has provided red kits with a white stripe and sleeves.
Andy Smith, Willow Pond FC manager and friend of Julio, who featured for SAFC more than 170 times after being signed by Peter Reid in 2000, said: “Paul’s a massive Sunderland fan and said he wanted to see Julio back in red and white so he asked if he could sponsor us and pay for the kits.
“We had navy kits before which were a bit like Boca Juniors in Argentina where Julio is from, but he doesn’t mind the change.
“We’ve even got him a “33” shirt with that being the number he wore for Sunderland and he’s absolutely over the moon with it.”
