WEARSIDERS are getting in the party spirit to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Multicultural organisation Unity has changed the day and venue of its community celebrations to June 4 at the Stadium of Light, from 1pm to 4pm.
The day will see performances from dance groups, raffles and shows, and organisers are inviting organisations that would like to set up a stall or put on a performance to get in touch.
They can be contacted by phoning 565 9990 or by emailing email@example.com.
Residents living in Sorley Street, in Millfield, are also preparing for a party.
On June 5, they will be holding a street party in aid of the St Bede United Reformed Church in the street.
Organiser Susan McCormick said: “It’s going to be a really good event and we’ve invited everyone in the street to join us.
“The Brownies and Scouts are also involved and we want to bring the whole community together, like it should be.”
If the weather is good, the event will be held in the street with games, including an egg and spoon race and obstacle race arranged.
If it is raining, the event, which includes a raffle and tombola, will be held inside the church.
Anyone wanting to donate prizes can phone Susan on 510 1268.
