Ecstatic Black Cats fans spoke of their delight at Dick Advocaat’s decision to stay on for another year and told him: “Now give us stability.”

We spoke to supporters in Chester Road to get their reaction.

Shaunie Wright, 18, of Millfield, said: “He kept us up last season and I don’t see why he can’t do better next time.”

Khamal Hussain, 36, of South Shields, said: “It’s great news.

“You just saw in the game at Arsenal when he was crying what it meant to him. I think he’ll definitely push the club up.

Khamal’s brother Ali, 41, of Chester Road, who is a chef at Sunderland AFC, added: “It’s a good move by the club. He is a really passionate and every game he is very focused.

I think it’s tremendous news. We need stability and with his capability and experience he can give us that, even if it is only for a year.

“We all have a lot of respect for him.” High Barnes resident Peter Wood, 63, said: “There weren’t a lot of other managers out there, so to get him for another year is very promising.”

Dave Webster, 46, of Pennywell, said: “I think it’s tremendous news. We need stability and with his capability and experience he can give us that, even if it is only for a year.”

Tony Pickering, 57, of Farringdon, said: “We would’ve gone down without him, but the club have got to spend money now to do well.”
