KARATE champs Chris Dee and brother Jay have given the opposition the chop.

Seven-year-old Chris has beaten off the competition to become the GKR Karate World Champion in his age category.

The Thorney Close Primary School pupil took on competitors from Australia, America and New Zealand at the international competition held in Birmingham last weekend.

Brother Jay, eight, also took part in the competition, coming fourth in his age category.

The pair, who are both green belts, train at Silksworth Community Centre, along with mum Billie-Jo Ryan, 35, and her ex-partner and the boys’ dad Justin Dee, 42.

Billie-Jo said: “I’m so proud of both of them. They’ve only been doing karate for two years.

“They’re already green belts and they’ve come first and fourth in this competition.

“They’re very competitive against each other now. Jay was in Chris’s age group but since he’s turned eight, he’s had to move up and fight the older kids, but he’s determined that he’s going to win next year.

“Chris is just absolutely over the moon, he’s ecstatic.

“They were starting to lose a bit of interest but this has just spurred them on even more.”

Justin said: “They’ve both done really well.”
