HE said “YES.”
Romantic Colette Cooper surprised boyfriend Danny Cullen with a marriage proposal in the Echo in the Valentine’s Day messages of love.
And her brave move paid off as he accepted – after a nervous wait.
Colette, from Thorney Close, said it was a while before the couple managed to speak on the phone because they were both working.
“I never phoned him at first,” added the 37-year-old nursery worker.
“His mam phoned him to tell him it was in the paper and then I spoke to him briefly on the phone.
“He was just a bit shocked really, but he said yes straight away.”
Electrician Danny said he was surprised, but knew he was going to say yes when the news reached him of Colette’s public proposal.
“I was over the moon. I wasn’t really expecting it but I’m really happy to say yes.”
The celebrations had to put on hold for a short while as Danny injured his hand at work and had to spend Valentine’s Day evening at an NHS walk-in centre to get it checked out.
The Plains Farm 27-year-old and Colette have known each other for 13 years.
“We have known each other for so long,” she said. “But we only got together just before New Year’s Eve because we were both with long-term partners before that.
“But then we were both single and it seemed like fate.”
Colette is already looking forward to the day that the loved-up couple can tie the knot.
“I would like to get married in the next year or so,” she said.
Danny was quick to list all the things he loves about his special Valentine.
“She has a mint personality. I love her looks, she is funny and outgoing. I am really happy she did it.”
