SEARCH under your sofa, in your car and turn your house upside down because someone in Sunderland is sitting on £1million.

The frantic search for Sunderland’s missing million-pound lottery ticket is on as time is running out to claim the Euromillions prize.

The golden ticket was bought in the city earlier this year and now the owner has just days left to pick up the prize.

To jog the winner’s memory, the University of Sunderland’s talented cheerleading team, the Sunderland Stars, have been out and about in the city centre.

The unclaimed ticket from the EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle was bought for the April 20 draw and the lucky ticket-holder only has until Wednesday to come forward.

The ticket, drawn nearly two weeks after Easter bank holiday weekend, was bought in The National Lottery’s fifth luckiest postcode area in the UK, which has seen more than 37 jackpot winners and 143 residents banking a prize of £50,000 or more.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: “We’re hoping that the chants and acrobatics of the North East cheerleading team, Sunderland Stars, will help get the message across to the people of Sunderland that there is still a £1million prize waiting to be claimed and less than a week left for the ticket-holder to come forward.

“The Sunderland Stars team will be encouraging residents to check their tickets and we’re doing everything we can to get this message across.”

The winning EuroMillions Millionaire Raffle selection, found at the bottom of the ticket, is VLF874510.

If no one comes forward to claim the prize, the prize money, plus the interest it has generated, will go to the National Lottery Good Causes – adding to the £28billion already raised through sales of lottery tickets since The National Lottery launched in November 1994.
