A CARER who deals with up to 18 clients has urged Echo readers to nominate unsung heroes in the health profession for an award.

Jenny Coward was one of the winners in the 2014 Sunderland Echo Best of Health awards.

Her nomination praised Jenny for her dedication and always being the first to be there to help.

Jenny was chosen as the Carer of the Year and admitted: “I thoroughly enjoyed it. The award came out of the blue and I had no idea I had won.

“I felt so privileged and I would encourage people to nominate for this year’s awards.”

Home Care worker Jenny will be 73 this year and said: “I love my job. I feel as if I am making a difference to people who never see anyone.”

She said she had 18 clients a day and added: “Today, for example, I am busy with a 99-year-old lady who has got all her faculties and I come in here four times a day.”

You could follow in Jenny’s footsteps in this year’s competition. We want to hear from Echo readers by the score. We want you to put your favourites from all sectors of the health profession in the running for a deserved honour.

We need entries in categories which range from carer of the year, community nurse of the year and dentist of the year, to clinical support and mental health nurse of the year.

There is plenty of time to put forward your favourites in the health service.

All entries must be received by March 20. After that, a panel of judges will meet around a week later to begin the difficult task of narrowing down the field.

They will draw up a shortlist in each of our categories. All those who make it to the shortlist will be invited to the glittering finals night to be held at the Stadium of Light on Thursday, April 16.

We want you to nominate your favourites in each of the categories listed on this page.

And for those of you with more than one worthy cause to put forward, feel free to inundate us with as many entries as you like.
