An inquest into the death of a dad who was killed when his car crashed through a barrier on a busy road has been opened.

Adam John Brennan, 40, died on Friday, September 11, when his car was involved in a collision on the Sunderland-bound carriageway of the A690 at Houghton Cut.

Mr Brennan, of Shaftsbury Park, Hetton, had been driving a Vauxhall Astra when it left the road and went down an embankment.

At Sunderland Coroner’s Court yesterday, assistant coroner Karin Welch formally opened an inquest into Mr Brennan’s death. Ms Welch adjourned the case until Monday, December 7.
