THE inquest into the death of a great- grandmother who was killed in a road smash has been formally opened.
Dolores Hubbert, 81, formerly Maggiore, nee Jaconelli, died after a collision between her Nissan Micra and a Toyota Yaris on the A690 Westbound at East Rainton on Friday, August 29.
The Great North Air Ambulance attended the scene as part of attempts to save her.
However, Mrs Hubbert, who lived in East Rainton, was later pronounced dead at University Hospital of North Durham.
At a short hearing at Sunderland Coroner’s Court yesterday, city coroner Derek Winter opened the inquest into Mrs Hubbert’s death.
He said an investigation into the accident by Northumbria Police’s road collision team was still continuing.
Mr Winter then adjourned the hearing until Tuesday, November 11.
