A CITY football club has scored a new sponsorship deal with a curry house.

Aquatic Sports, who celebrated their 50 year anniversary in 2013, were desperately searching for a new backer in the past few months.

But they have now teamed up with Indian restaurant, Alishaan, after the business answered the Wearside Combination League side’s call for help.

The agreement is much to the relief of Aquatic player-manager David Hoey, who admitted his search for a backer was looking hopeless.

He said: “We spent more than £400 on the new strips at the start of the season and that’s when I was looking for a sponsor.

“Then when Alishaan opened a couple of the lads went in for a takeaway and the staff saw their training jackets asked them about who they played for.

“When they told them that we were looking for a sponsor, we managed to sort things.”

The Blue Bell pub, also in Fulwell, have now pledged to also help out Aquatic.

They have agreed to pay the team’s pitch fees for this season.
