BOSSES at an ice-cream parlour have thrown their support behind SAFC’s ladies team with a special sundae.
Staff at Lickety Split, in Seaham, have come up with a red and white sundae, which they hope will inspire the team to scoop the Women’s Super League (WSL) title.
Team captain Steph Bannon and goalkeeper Rachel Laws visited the store yesterday, to try the new Sunderland Split ahead of first game of the season against Durham, at New Fearns Park.
They said the squad, which was left out of the league for the first two seasons it was running, is eager to prove its worth.
She said: “We have waited eight or nine months for this now.
“I think with the preparation all the girls have done, and knowing everyone is together as a team, we are raring to go.”
All fans who go to the first home game of the season, against Reading FC Women on Sunday, at the Hetton Centre, will receive a sample of the honorary sundae.
There will also be live entertainment, face-painting and a speed cage for budding football players to test their skills.
Steph said support throughout the season will be important to the team, who have won the Women’s Premier League title for the last three years.
Tickets for Sunday’s game are available at the ground before the 2pm kick-off. They are free to SAFC season card holders (who show a valid 2013/2014 card) or £4 full price and £1 concession.
Entertainment starts at noon.
