A BUSINESSMAN wants to reassure residents over plans for a new off-licence.
Ash Vedhara is behind plans to open a new Londis convenience store, in the ground floor of the former Sun Inn in Southwick.
A licensing application for the store is due to go before Sunderland councillors today, but two residents have written to the authority’s licensing sub-committee to object.
Both say there are already enough shops selling alcohol around The Green. One also complains about the number of vans unloading late at night.
Mr Vedhara, whose company 3F Leisure Ltd will run the store, said he understood concerns.
“People have their opinions and we understand that,” he said. “But I would like to put their minds at rest. Deliveries will typically be between 9am and noon – they won’t be coming at night.
“Alcohol will only be 10 per cent of the floor space. It will be furthest from the door and in its own special area, so children will have no reason to be in there.
He added: “We are spending in excess of £100,000 and creating 12 jobs.”
