THE search is on for the six Wearsiders who have a special connection to royal groom-to-be Prince William.
The 28-year-old prince is set to wed fiancée Kate Middleton – who has Wearside links – at the end of this month.
Born on June 21, 1982, Prince William shares his birthday with four boys and two girls born in Sunderland.
Mums Claire Belford, from Downhill; Janet Owen, from Fulwell; Gillian Girdzusz, from Hendon; Evelyn Garbutt, from Houghton; Maureen Balcombe, from Roker, and Carole Shaw, from Rickleton, all gave birth at Sunderland District Hospital on the same day that William arrived.
Four of the mums had boys but none decided to name them after the baby prince.
At the time, Mrs Owens, of Zion Terrace, Fulwell, said: “As far as I’m concerned, it is just as good for Lady Di to give birth on the same day as me, as the other way round.
“I am not at all impressed.
“People kept saying to me, wouldn’t it be good if I gave birth on the same day as Lady Di.
“But so what?”
And none of the mums said they liked the favoured name for the royal baby of George.
“I don’t think it’s a very fashionable name at the moment,” Mrs Girdzusz, of Hendon, said.
The Echo is now making an appeal for the six mums to come forward and let us know what their babies are doing now.
