YOUNG Wearside writers can book themselves a slot in a top competition.
Disney is searching for a Winnie the Pooh Laureate in the North East and is asking youngsters to write about their area’s local history and landmarks in a unique way.
Stories must be 500 words or less and feature Winnie the Pooh and friends taking an adventure outside 100 Acre Wood or introducing their own new cast of characters.
The winner will have the chance to read their story at the Disney Store in The Bridges, in Sunderland, have it printed in a book and win a goodie bag.
Spearheading the campaign for the North East is author Keith Gregson, who has written 19 books including Children’s History of Sunderland.
He said: “Places like Penshaw Monument have always been hugely inspirational to me and I’d love to see Winnie the Pooh and Friends taken on a mini adventure there. Good luck.”

The contest closes on December 17.
