AMAZING. You have made this year’s Echo Toy Appeal the best ever – a record-breaker beyond belief.

Readers’ generosity means the poorest of the poor will be helped across the city.

Orphans, homeless mothers and children, and young men and women coming out of care with no families, will share in an appeal that has touched so many hearts.

Echo editor Rob Lawson said: “This year’s response has been absolutely amazing, certainly the most impressive to date. And it’s great that our readers have responded in such a fantastic manner, given the current economic circumstances.

“Of course the appeal simply would not work without the active support and help of the many stores who adopt us each Christmas.

“I would like to put my personal thanks on record to these stores. They have made Christmas for a lot of Wearside children.”
