A town’s fireworks display hopes to pull in people of all ages next month.

Houghton Family Fireworks evening takes place at the town’s rugby club, in Dairy Lane, on Sunday, November 1, with organisers optimistic the event will be packed.

There are shows for the kids and food will be available.

The gates to the rugby club will be open from 5pm, with the big display set to get under way at 7pm.

Organiser and vice -hairman of Houghton Rugby Club, Ian Kitching, said: “This is the third year we’ve put the display on and we’re hoping it will be the best yet.

“There are shows for the kids and food will be available to visitors. It’s also the first time we’ve had a sponsor in Town Centre Citroen, and we’ve been able to get flyers out in the area to let people know, something which we never have done before.

“We’ve had more than 1,000 people in for the last two years, so hopefully we’ll get even more this time.”

Entry to the display is priced at £2 for adults and £1 for children.

A number of other displays are also taking part across Wearside after the event at Houghton Rugby Club.

Ashbrooke Fireworks Display, at Ashbrooke Sports Club, West Lawn, takes place at 7.30pm on Bonfire Night, Thursday, November 5.

Gates open from 6pm on the night, with entry priced at £6 per person.

Houghton Round Table will host its Fireworks Spectacular at Hetton Lyons Cricket Club on the same night, with gates opening at 6pm, ahead of a display starting at 7pm.

Entry is £3 for adults and £2 for children.
