The end of the Autumn 2015 Evening Recitals by Master musicians international is in St Michael and All Angels’ Parish Church at 7.30pm on Tuesday, December 8, will feature Kiryl Keduk on the piano and Ivan Karizna on the cello, both from Belarus.Admission at the door is £8.

Houghton Older People’s Enterprise will hold its carol service with Albert Humphrey on the organ in the Methodists Church at 1pm on Thursday.

Dairy Lane Care Centre will be holding a coffee morning at 10am on Friday, which in addition to the usual produce stalls and refreshments, will feature a coat sale with all items at £5 or less. Further details from the centre, phone 5842339.

The next surgery by Shiney Row Councillors, Anne Lawson, Mel Speding and Geoff Walker, will be in Trinity Methodist Church Hall from 10am to 11am on Saturday.

All Saints’ Church, Penshaw Village, Christmas fair is in the village hall from 11am to 2pm on Saturday. There will be all the usual stalls, attractions and refreshments. Admission is 20p.

There will be a large craft and food market at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm each day with Christmas themed events, and music and a special visit from Santa Claus. There will be more than 70 stalls. Admission to the site is free.

At St Aidan’s Worship Centre, New Herrington, there will be a Christmas coffee morning from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, which apart from the usual attractions will feature a colouring competition for the children.

The season of tribute acts at Zazz Theatre in Newbottle Street continues on Saturday with Alexandra Crellin and Dancers as Katy Perry. Tickets are £8.50 from the box office, phone 5840764.

At Shiney Row St Oswald’s there will be Christmas songs and carols and entertainment by Sandra, paying a welcome return, at 6.30pm on Monday, December 7. Tea and mince pies will be served during the evening.

The next meeting of the members of the Friends of Rectory Park will be in the community room of St Michael’s Kepier Hall at 7pm on Tuesday, December 8.

Member Bill Hartburn gave an illustrated talk to his colleagues at Sunniside Methodist Men’s Fellowship about a family holiday in Normandy, which also gave them the opportunity to visit a relative’s grave at a military cemetery in Cambrai.

Speaker at Houghton Methodist Women’s Fellowship was Marjorie Mordue, from Chester-le-Street, on the subject of Love. The club will have its Christmas lunch at Wetherspoons Wild Boar pub restaurant tomorrow.

Jonathon Adams, a former Curate at St Chad’s, East Herrington, was the speaker at the Rotary Club, about his current role as a volunteer Ecumenical Accompanier for the Ecumenical Accompaniment programme to Israel and the occupied Palestine Territories. It is an organisation set up to monitor and report violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, offering protection through non-violent presence, supporting Israeli and Palestinian peace activists and undertaking advocacy work including public speaking in the UK and Ireland about the problems and progress.

Alison McLeod gave a talk to Houghton Methodist Tuesday Fellowship about the famous artist Rembrandt – his life and work.
