YOUNG boxers are in with a fighting chance of testing their skills across the country.
Houghton Boxing Club is hoping to boost its funds when it hosts its first home show at Ramside Hall Hotel, in Durham.
As well as showcasing the club’s top fighters, there will also be an auction and raffle to help raise cash to buy a minibus for the club. Barclays has agreed to match whatever is raised pound for pound.
Dianne Major, of the club, said: “Barclays have kindly agreed to send some staff along to work with us to fund-raise on the night.”
The minibus will be used to take youngsters to bouts, as well as on residential trips over the summer, when the boxing season takes a break.
“It means we can take the children and young people to other shows and to regional and national events,” Dianne said.
The event, to be attended by club patron Lord Brian Mackenzie of Framwellgate, takes place on Friday.
Doors open at 6.45pm and the first fight is at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £10 on the door.
